Q. Who can belong to MIEC?
A. The council is composed of  4 Officers, a Parliamentarian and representatives from Homeowners Associations on Merritt Island.  The "Board" consists of  the officers and District Representatives for different areas of Merritt Island.  Each association must be a registered non-profit corporation.  Associate memberships consist of neighborhoods desiring to operate as an association, however,  not desirous of Incorporating.  Honorary memberships are also available, however, they are not eligible to vote; rather only give their opinion, if desired.  NOW OPEN to area businesses and organizations.  All applicants must be approved by the Board.  Write or call an ofcr for additional info.

Q. What are the dues for an association.?
A. The dues currently are $15/year payable in January.  Business and Organizational sponsor members are $35/yr payable with application and annually on the anniversary of their approval thereafter.

Q. What does MIEC do?
A. The MIEC provides a platform for "member" Merritt Islanders Homeowner Associations, businesses and organizations to use when addressing problems and concerns they have on an assortment of subjects.  The Executive Council is very instrumental in promoting Merritt Island in a variety of ways.  Each year, we co-sponsor the annual parade and award $500 or more in prize money.  Along with the District 2, County Commissioner Ron Pritchard and his office staff, we conducted a contest for the FIRST EVER slogan and logo for Merritt Island and had 4 signs made and installed at main access areas to the Island.  The winner, as you are aware, was "Merritt Island, Where Dreams are Launched."  We are continually working with local businesses to manufacture items bearing the slogan and logo, which results in additional cash flow for the Executive Council to give back to the community with different projects.  We have a need for good people to serve on the Council and assist us with Archiving of documents, awarding businesses for improvements, striving to improve the overall appearance wherever possible and assist in communicating the residents' desires to the Bd. of County Commissioners and other community leaders, for the betterment of our diverse Island.  Why not join us and learn what you can do to help make Merritt Island the best it can be?

Q. Is the MIEC a political organization?
A. No, altho' during an election year, we have traditionally offered candidates a chance to meet local voters by either giving a Candidates Pancake Breakfast or a Candidates Forum. The Council is non-partisan and does not endorse any political party or candidate.  In August of 2004, and again in 2006, the MIEC held a successful  "Meet the Candidates Pizza Party" at Kiwanis Island.  We will be voting to decide IF we will continue the Tradition of hosting such a Forum at the July 14, 2008 meeting at the Library, and will see that it is publicized if we do so.  Candidates may request to be included and can attend and speak at our regular meetings or Special ones may be called if there is enough interest.  Contact Barbara at 452-5520 or any member of staff and advise.  You may also write to MIECHOA@aol.com and someone will get back to you.

Q. When and where are these meetings held?
A.
Meetings are now held Quarterly at 10:00 A.M. on the second Monday of that month at the Merritt Island Library, unless on summer break.  Special Mtgs as called.  NEXT mtg will be MONDAY, JULY 14th, 2008.
